Welcome to ASN Financial Aid & Scholarships

We are excited that you are considering applying to the Licensed Vocational Program at Annenberg School of Nursing! The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office provides information and support to students, parents, veterans, and their families. Our mission is to ensure all admitted students have adequate financial aid resources available to attend Annenberg School of Nursing.

Financial aid is available for Vocational Nursing Program students who qualify. Potential funding sources include:

  • Pell Grants
  • Direct federal loans
  • Interest-free loans
  • ASN scholarships

What is Federal Student Aid?

It is money from the U.S. Department of Education to assist you in paying for your
post-secondary education (college or vocational education programs, such as
vocational nursing). You have to apply for it, and indicate which school(s) you are considering attending.

Who can apply for Federal Student Aid?

Anyone who is a United States Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen can apply. For the ASN
program, you have to have a high school diploma or equivalent and be 18 or older.

Types of Aid:

Grants: Grants are offered through the Federal Student Aid Pell Grant Program. Pell
Grant Awards are based on need, and students must apply by submitting the FAFSA.

Pell Grants do NOT require the award money to be paid back.

Loans: Federal Student Aid Loans are available through the Direct Loan program that
offers both subsidized and unsubsidized loans to students, and Parent Plus loans to
parents of dependent students. Students apply by completing the FAFSA. Direct Loan
money must be paid back to the U.S. Department of Education. Students will
complete and sign a Master Promissory Note and participate in entrance and exit
financial counseling to understand the terms and conditions of repayment plans, if eligible to receive loan money.

Detailed information about the Federal Grants and Loan Programs can be found online at studentaid.ed.gov, or the ASN Financial Aid Office.

ASN Scholarship: ASN scholarships are available for VN students based on annual availability of funds for the program. The Financial Aid Office can provide details of the application process.

Interest Free Loan: This interest free loan from the Jewish Free Loan Association is available to eligible students pursuing post-secondary education for healthcare careers. Applications are open to all students attending the ASN programs.
The Interest Free Loan Program represents a unique opportunity to obtain funds that can be paid back over time with ZERO interest. Details are available from the ASN Financial Aid Office.

How to Apply for Financial Aid:

Students applying for funds from any of the Federal Pell Grant or Direct Loan Programs must complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) either online at studentaid.gov or in hard copy form available at the Financial Aid Office, or via download from the FAFSA website. This application collects the demographic and financial information needed to determine eligibility for the Federal programs. The online application is easy to navigate and will automatically
access other federal data bases (e.g. Social Security, IRS) to collect and verify information electronically. Detailed instructions are available on the FAFSA website.
The School Code for ASN is 041913. Your FAFSA will automatically be sent to the ASN Financial Aid Office for review when you list that code number in Step 6 on your FAFSA.

Cost of Attendance (COA):

is the total estimated, officially determined cost to attend college for one academic year, including tuition, fees, housing, food, books, and personal expenses. It acts as a maximum budget for financial aid eligibility. You can see the breakdown listed here.

Net Price Calculator:

estimates a student's actual, personalized cost of attendance—tuition, fees, room, and board—after subtracting estimated grants and scholarships. You can find the Net Price Calculator here.

Direct Loan Counseling Overview:

First-time student borrowers must complete entrance counseling before they can receive the first disbursement of a Direct Loan, and all student Direct Loan borrowers must complete exit counseling shortly before they cease to be enrolled on at least a half-time basis. There is a special counseling requirement for student and parent Direct PLUS Loan borrowers who meet the requirements to receive a Direct PLUS Loan after having been determined to have an adverse credit history.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP):

Students receiving Title IV Federal Student Aid must meet the requirements for achieving Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in the VN program in order to continue receiving aid for the duration of the program. SAP is verified prior to the release of funds at the beginning of each financial aid payment period. Requirements for SAP at the Annenberg School of Nursing are detailed in the School Catalog.

Withdrawals and Return of Title IV Funds:

Procedures for withdrawal from ASN, and refunds of tuition based on the withdrawal date, are described in the course catalog. If a student withdraws from the Vocational Nurse program, and is receiving federal Title IV funds (Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan),
the school must perform a Return of Title IV Funds calculation. The school will determine if it has disbursed unearned federal funds, and provide written notification to the student of the excess amount disbursed. The unearned funds must be returned to the Department of Education within 45 days of the date the school determines the student withdrew. If ASN has disbursed less aid than the
student has earned at the time of withdrawal, the student is due a post-withdrawal disbursement. If the student is eligible for a post-withdrawal disbursal of Direct Loan funds, ASN will provide written notification to the student within 30 days of the date the school determined that the student withdrew. Further details regarding the Return of Title IV funds and related disbursements can be obtained from the ASN Financial Aid Office.
