Applying for Admission

Gaining admission to ASN’s Nurse Assistant Program requires applicants to be at least 18 years old and have a U.S. high school diploma or its equivalent. Prospective students also must:

 

  • Score a minimum of 75% on a timed entrance exam measuring English and math skills
  • Possess Social Security card and valid California ID
  • Pass a health evaluation and undergo fingerprinting
  • Interview with Admissions personnel.
Criteria for Admissions

The Nurse Assistant Program is open to candidates, at least 18 years old. In addition, applicants must:

  • H.S Diploma/ GED (from the United State)
  • Must be 18 and over
  • Successfully pass the Evaluation Exam (40 question on basic English and Math) - $10 fee payable by check, money order or cashier’s check only. Evaluation exam is by appointment only.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • Provide a valid California ID/Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • Provide verification of COVID vaccination & boosters (as required by clinical sites)
  • Complete and pass a medical physical, drug screen, and TB test
  • Complete and pass background review that includes Live Scan fingerprinting
  • Minimum deposit of $400.00 required

Tuition and Fees

One all-inclusive fee covers the entire cost of the Nurse Assistant Program:

  • 24 days of classroom and clinical coursework
  • All books
  • Certified Nurse Exam fee
  • 1 ASN t-shirt
  • Drug screening
  • Physical exam
  • LiveScan

What It Takes

Strength

Nursing hands are caring hands—and they must be strong hands, as well. To qualify, candidates must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and to stand for long periods of time, up to 12 hours.

Awareness

Even under the best conditions, nursing is challenging work. Nurses must be vigilant throughout their shift. Remaining mentally alert minimizes the risks inherent in the profession.

Risks

  • Distractions caused by frequent interruptions
  • Injury from burns, equipment, and odors
  • Exposure to infectious waste and diseases including TB, hepatitis and AIDS
